New to Homeschooling?

Homeschooling is a BIG decision!

Whether you're gathering information

or you've already made your decision,

this page is designed to help you find answers to your questions.

The Connection would love to partner with you

on your homeschooling journey!

1. Know the law.  How will you homeschool?  In Tennessee, you can be an independent homeschooler, affiliate with a church-related umbrella school, or enroll in an accredited online school. In Mississippi, you register with your county's school attendance officer.  Check out Tennessee's Department of Education or Mississippi's Department of Education for more details.

2. Get your toolbox. Choose curricula that works for you.  What's your style?  Unit studies? Charlotte Mason? Textbooks?  Keep in mind that you do not have to replicate the traditional classroom experience at home.  Figure out how your child learns best, what they are interested in, and how to create their ideal learning environment.

3. Don't go it alone.  Homeschooling is a challenge!  Make sure you have support. Join a group or two for field trips, playdates, and general information.  Find a mentor who understands the journey and can share her wisdom.  Partner with a tutorial or co-op to make your experience the best it can be!
